Frequently asked questions

What Lucid covers, how it protects your work, and how it keeps your data private.

What subjects does Lucid cover?

Lucid covers all eight learning areas of the New Zealand Curriculum for Year 7 to Year 10: English, mathematics and statistics, science, technology, social sciences, learning languages, the arts, and health and physical education. For Year 11 to Year 13 it covers a growing set of NCEA subjects across the sciences, mathematics, commerce, humanities, and languages.

How is Lucid different from a tutoring service or an AI chatbot?

A chatbot writes the answer for you. Lucid does the opposite. It asks the questions that lead you to the answer yourself, and it aligns every question to the New Zealand Curriculum. You keep the thinking, and the learning.

Will Lucid write my essay for me?

No. Lucid never produces the work a student would submit — no essay, no thesis, no opening line, no translation. This is its central rule. It gives feedback on your own draft and asks questions that sharpen your ideas.

Is my data private?

Your data is stored encrypted on a server in Sydney, Australia, and we use no analytics or advertising trackers. Four external providers process limited data on our behalf: Anthropic (in the United States) receives message content to generate the tutor's replies — this is disclosed at signup and you authorise it there; Stripe handles billing; Resend sends account emails; and Sentry receives error reports scrubbed of student content. The full detail is in our Privacy Policy.

What year levels does Lucid support?

Lucid supports Year 7 through to NCEA Level 3 in Year 13.

How does spaced repetition work?

Lucid records the ideas you have mastered and schedules a review before you are likely to forget them. Each idea returns at a widening interval, so revision lands at the moment it does the most good.

Can a teacher see what I am studying?

In a school plan, a teacher builds a class roster and follows each student they add to it. The teacher sees that student's focus and progress. In an individual plan, only the parent or homeschool account holds that view.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Lucid runs in a web browser. Create an account, sign in, and start studying.

What if I need a subject Lucid does not cover yet?

Contact us and tell us what you need. Lucid adds subjects over time, and new subjects arrive at no extra cost. Email support@edapt.net.nz.
