About Lucid

A study companion that teaches you to think, built around the New Zealand Curriculum.

What is Lucid?

Lucid is a Socratic study companion for the New Zealand Curriculum. It asks questions that help a student work through a problem. It retrieves the curriculum requirements, points to relevant material, and gives feedback on the student's own drafts.

The rule at the centre

Lucid never writes your essay, your translation, or your analysis for you. It helps you work through the ideas yourself. The line between guidance and doing the work is unconditional.

Two layers hold that line. A filter checks each request before Lucid answers. A second model reviews every response before you see it. Any answer that would do your work is blocked.

Who built Lucid?

Patrick Gaines, a New Zealand student, built Lucid for his own study. He wanted a tool that asked the right question rather than one that handed over the answer. He then opened Lucid to other students, families, and schools.
